Selection Criteria
Upper Year W. Garfield Weston Awards recognize and reward the outstanding college student who is:
● passionate about his or her field of study;
● curious, courageous, and willing to try new things; and
● community-minded and truly committed to being involved and making a difference in society.
Eligibility Criteria
Please ensure the eligibility of your program and institution.
Eligible colleges: The W. Garfield Weston Award can only be used for study at colleges presently in the consortium, which are listed here.
Eligible programs:
- lead to a diploma or an applied degree (university and university-transfer programs leading to university baccalaureate degrees are not eligible, nor are post-graduate certificate programs);
- are full time (100% course-load) and are at least 16 months in length;
- For CEGEP: are technical programs (not pre-university DEC programs).
In order to be eligible for an Upper Year W. Garfield Weston Award, a student must:
- be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
- be presently enrolled in full-time college studies in a program recognized as eligible by the college and the W. Garfield Weston Awards, OR enrolled full-time in a specialized college certificate in preparation for entry into an eligible program in the fall of 2012;
- have at least two full academic terms remaining in his or her current college program after August 2012, and be pursuing his or her remaining studies full time, with a 100% course load*. Students enrolled in co-op programs or placements must have at least two academic terms remaining. Exception: students applying from a college preparation certificate program must be entering into a program that is at least four full-time academic terms in length;
- have a minimum academic average of 73% or equivalent performance level; and
- be nominated by his or her College or CEGEP.
* Course loads for students with documented exeptionalities will be considered individually
