How to apply for an Entrance Garfield Weston Award

You may download the application by clicking here. Applications are also mailed to high schools throughout Canada. If you cannot access an application, e-mail info@garfieldwestonawards.ca or call us toll-free at 1-866-544-2673.

 

Instructions

  • Complete the application form by using a computer or typewriter, or printing neatly in blue or black ink. Note that pages 6-8 must be typed. This form cannot be saved.
  • Ensure that you are entering studies at a college, not a university, and that your program is recognized as eligible by the college and by the Garfield Weston Awards. Note: university-transfer programs, traditional degree programs, post-graduate, and pre-university DEC programs are not eligible.
  • Answer all the questions. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  • Use only the space provided. Extra pages will not be read.
  • Proofread your application carefully.
  • Find a reference who can complete Page 9. Make sure to choose someone who is not a relative but who knows you and your activities well. Provide him or her with a copy of your completed application.
  • Do not forget to sign and date your application.
  • Your complete application package must include the following:
    • One original application with an official transcript stapled at the end. (Students who do not have their final marks at the time of applicationshould submit available transcripts and mid-term marks; final marks will be requested for applicants invited to interview).
    • Two photocopies of the complete application, each including a photocopy of your transcript.
    • One additional copy of the first page (page 5) of the application.

Information for adult learners

Adult learners are asked to submit one additional page which should include a brief biographical sketch, a more extensive employment history, and a paragraph about why they have decided to pursue college studies. Adult learners are those individuals who have been out of school for at least three years.

Mailing instructions & deadline information

  • All applications must be received (not postmarked) by 15 April 2010.
  • Applications must be sent using Canada Post services only. These include: regular mail, Priority Courier and Xpresspost that do not require a signature.
  • Applications sent by fax, hand delivered or mailed through private couriers (such as Purolator, Fedex, etc.) are not accepted.
